A Crimson Eternity
You crawl into the darkness
and they say you’re turning
your back on the light
Because only I can see that
you’re neither dark nor light,
good or evil
In heaven or hell
You’re like liquid fire
pouring down my throat
Never forming, sometimes flowing
Always burning
Licking and crackling on my skin
pulling me in with your warmth
and then tearing me away with your pain
For not even the intolerable heat
of your flame can unthaw you
You’re forever frozen
and in my arms the ice on your heart
only forms more rapidly
So, I’ll search for the spark,
in my darkness and your light,
that might open your eyes to
reach inside and melt the ice
Because our dwindling glow
won’t be everlasting
No matter how hard we try to
trap the smoke it will only
seep through our fingertips
And rise
Leaving us both empty handed and
me black and burned
