A man’s arm was severed at a pasta production plant near Markham Road and Finch Avenue East on Sunday, police say. The man, in his forties, was scraping residue from the inside of a machine used to mix ingredients when his arm was caught. “There was an accident and his arm was fully amputated by the machine,” said Toronto Police Detective Dawn Rose. He was taken by ambulance to Toronto Western Hospital, where doctors were unsuccessful in reattaching the limb. Ministry of Labour spokesman Bruce Skeaff said investigation of the accident could take weeks or even months. Food Directions Inc., which is located on Melford Drive and which produces Tinkyada brand rice pasta, declined to comment.
